Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi

This year Ganesh Chaturthi will be observed on Saturday, 22nd August.
Ganpati Puja is preferred during Madhyahna, where the Muhurat begins at 11:06 AM and continues till 01:42 PM.

The Ganesha Visarjan shall be done on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi needs no explication, it marks the birth of Lord Ganesha and is a widely celebrated festival across South East Asia and especially India and its western and southern parts.

It is a 10 day festival that begins on Shukla Chaturthi, the fourth day of the waxing moon period, of the Bhadrapada month of Hindu calendar and 14th day of waxing moon period also known as Anant Chaturdashi is when it ends.

There are four main rituals during this grand festival –
Pranapratishhtha: Which is the process of infusing the deity into a murti or an idol. Shhodashopachara – The 16 forms of paying tribute to the Lord Ganesha.


Uttarpuja – This is the puja after which the idol is shifted after it’s an infusion. Ganpati Visarjan – Is the process of immersion of the Idol in the river or waterbody.

Along with rhythmic chants and devotees keeping fasts, offerings of Modak, Motichoor Ladoo, Besan Ladoo etc are also made during Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi puja celebration.
